Close to the Collingham Apartments you’ll find three of the world’s leading museums – the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
With 3.3m visitors every year, the Science Museum is a ‘vast treasury of science and invention, famous for its state-of-the-art interactive exhibits’ while the Natural History Museum, a major research and teaching centre, holds over 80m items including specimens collected by Charles Darwin and a famous collection of dinosaur skeletons in one of London’s most beautiful and ornate buildings. The V&A is the world’s largest museum of decorative arts and design with a permanent collection of over 4.5m pieces. Recent exhibitions have included Wedding Dresses from 1775, Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, The Fabric of India and The Glamour of Italian Fashion: 1945 – 2014. The museums are free but you may have to pay for certain temporary exhibitions so please check the websites before you arrive.
If you’ve not been to London before and are interested in seeing the hottest tourist spots, you can take a trip on the famous hop-on, hop-off bus tours which will take you through 2,000 years of amazing history including St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the ancient ruins of London Wall, the Bank of England and the curiosity of the narrow, cobbled streets of the City of London.
