What Is The Chelsea Flower Show?

Since 1833, The Royal Horticultural Society held flower shows in their garden in Chiswick but travelling to west London in the 1830s wasn’t as easy as it is today. They moved it to the RHS garden in Kensington and from 1912 it’s been held in the stunning grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, a retirement and nursing home for 300 British Army veterans.

Every year the show is attended by 157,000 visitors (limited due to the size of the grounds) and from humble beginnings in a single tent, the show has grown to become the most famous flower show in the world!

What Can You See?

From a small display of local flowers in the 19th century, the Chelsea Flower Show has, ahem, bloomed into a phenomenal assault on the senses and is a truly spectacular show of colour, smells, sights and sounds.
