The home of Harrods, Harvey Nichols and £20m apartments but if you’re looking for outstanding serviced apartments in Knightsbridge, the Collingham is the perfect choice: newly-refurbished apartments, excellent customer service and one of the best locations in London.
Knightsbridge – One of London’s most Iconic Neighbourhoods
Knightsbridge is certainly one of London’s most iconic and exclusive areas and it lies a few miles west of the centre of London and just south of Hyde Park. It’s known the world over as the location of Harrods but it’s also perhaps the most sought-after residential area in London which has stayed largely unchanged for hundreds of years. So while £55m on a five-bedroom apartment overlooking the Royal Albert Hall may be stretching it, if you want a serviced apartment in Knightsbridge for a short-term stay or holiday let, then the Collingham is your ideal choice.

Knightsbridge – The Perfect London Location
As we’ve said, Knightsbridge is probably London’s most exclusive area and it’s full of serene, quiet streets like Collingham Gardens where you’ll find the Collingham – consistently seen as one of the most outstanding serviced apartments near Knightsbridge.
You’re less than two miles from the West End but on your doorstep are the world’s best museums – the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the V&A and the Imperial War Museum – the Royal Albert Hall, the world-famous shopping avenues of Brompton Road, King’s Road, High Street Kensington and Knightsbridge itself.
To get into central London you can use any one of five tube stations nearby – Knightsbridge, Earl’s Court, Gloucester Road, High Street Kensington and South Kensington – and there are buses and even cycles if you’re feeling healthy!
The area is full of restaurants, gastropubs, interesting walks and some of the best green spaces in the city. If you’re here to shop, you are definitely in the right place. Harrods is the star of the show but many locals prefer the chic Harvey Nichols. A stroll down Sloane Street and you’ll find Prada, Chanel, Dior, Gucci and Armani and around every corner there’s a boutique that will have your wallet itching, all within a short distance of the Collingham.
If you need any advice during your stay, our reception staff will tell you everything you need to know about transport, restaurant bookings, theatre tickets, tourist attractions and anything else you want to know.
A Short History of Knightsbridge
As you can probably imagine, Knightsbridge was named after a crossing of a now-underground river called the Westbourne. As far back as 1141, London’s citizens would meet at the Knight’s Bridge across the river to ruminate about the events of the day.
The Westbourne River (also known as the Kilburn) is sourced from Hampstead Pond and coursed through London. The water was pure and was used as drinking water but the 19th century industrial revolution soon put paid to that and it quickly transformed into a sewer. The river was driven underground with the development of Paddington, Chelsea, Belgravia and Knightsbridge and was directed into pipes around 1850 and since then it has, along with the Fleet, the Tyburn, the Walbrook and the Effra, become one of London’s lost rivers.
If you look hard enough, the original iron pipe can still be seen above the platform of Sloane Square tube station.
Unusually for London, Knightsbridge is both the name of the area and the name of the main road that runs through it.
